Source:   The Hindu City   : Chennai Published On   24-07-2010

Demanding drinking water supply to their hamlet, a group of Kaalaankarai villagers submitted petition to Collector G. Prakash on Monday.

The petitioners said they, who were getting drinking water from Srivaikuntam Combined Drinking Water Scheme, were not getting water for the past 20 days. Though they had informed the officials about its problem, no action was taken to restore drinking water supply. Hence, they wanted the Collector to instruct the officials to restore drinking water supply to Kaalaankarai.

Another group of women from Tiruchendur union submitted a petition and said they were finding it difficult to buy kerosene to be used as fuel to their boats in the open market owing to its spiralling prices.

Hence, the district administration should make arrangements to give kerosene to the fishermen at a subsidised cost, they said.
