The Kerala Water Authority KWA has said the work on the Rs 5.58crore Chellanam potable water project was progressing and the Rs 32.20crore project, covering Elamkunnapuzha, Njarakkal and Nairambalam panchayats, has already begun.

The KWA has got the permission to start the Rs 17crore project for the benefit of Kadamakkutty and Varapuzha panchayats the Rs 5crore project for Udayamperoor, Amballoor and Edakkatuvayal panchayats; and the Rs 4.26crore project for Nellikuzhi and Payipra panchayats.

The authority has also got the green signal to take up the projects at Varapetty, Manjaloor and Avoli; the KWA said in a statement.It has got the clearance for the Rs 201.17crore worth projects for the benefit of the city residents under JNNRUM and an Rs 74.81 core sewage project in the city.

The authority said it had invested heavily in the last four years for improving the water supply in the district and had completed the Rs 136crore project to benefit over 7 lakh people in the Corporation and nearby panchayats in 2007.
